Supporting Our Local Athletes This Spring: Preparing for the London Marathon, Cricket,Tennis or Golf Tournaments.

At Serenity Space,London SW18, we’re proud to support a growing community of South West London athletes. Whether you’re gearing up for the London Marathon or preparing for Wimbledon’s 10K on 17th May!

This time of year across South West London is full of energy, but it can also be physically and mentally demanding. Training intensifies, mileage increases, and the risk of fatigue or injury creeps in. That’s where the right balance of movement, recovery, and mindset becomes essential.

Here’s how our treatments and classes can support you in the lead-up to race day and beyond.

🏃‍♂️ For Runners: Building Strength, Preventing Injury

Whether you’re tackling a marathon or a shorter distance like a 10K or half marathon, your body is under consistent load, particularly through the hips, hamstrings, calves, and lower back.

Our Pilates and yoga classes are designed to complement your training by helping you:

  • Improve flexibility and joint mobility

  • Build core strength and stability

  • Enhance posture and running efficiency

For runners preparing for both the London Marathon and Wimbledon’s races on 17th May, these sessions can help you stay strong, balanced, and injury-free as training peaks.

Alongside this, our sports and deep tissue massage treatments support:

  • Muscle recovery after long runs

  • Release of tight fascia and built-up tension

  • Prevention and management of common running injuries

🎾 For Tennis Players: Stay Strong, Agile and Balanced

Spring and summer also mark a busy time on the tennis court. Repeated serving, sprinting, and rotational movement can place strain on the shoulders, hips, and spine.

We support tennis players through:

  • Pilates for core strength and control

  • Yoga for mobility and flexibility

  • Hands-on treatments to relieve muscular tension and imbalances

Whether you’re competing or playing socially, these practices help you move more freely and reduce the risk of overuse injuries.

⛳🏏 For Golfers & Cricketers: Local Play, Performance and Longevity

As we move into the spring and summer months around WandsworthWimbledon and South West London, more of us are spending long days on the golf course or at the cricket ground, whether that’s weekend rounds, club matches, or evening training sessions.

Both sports rely heavily on rotational movement, coordination, and repeated loading, particularly through the shoulders, spine, hips, and wrists. Over time, this can lead to stiffness, imbalance, and reduced performance if not properly supported.

At Serenity Space, we support golfers and cricketers with:

  • Yoga to improve mobility, especially through the thoracic spine and hips, key for an efficient swing or bowling action

  • Pilates to build core strength and control, helping generate power while protecting the lower back

  • Sports massage and hands-on therapies to relieve tension and manage the impact of repetitive play

Whether you’re heading out for a full 18 holes, playing a weekend fixture, or fitting in practice after work, keeping your body mobile, strong, and balanced is essential not just for performance, but for enjoying your sport all season long.

💆‍♀️ Recovery: The Key to Consistent Performance

One of the biggest challenges during race season is knowing when to push and when to recover.

Our treatments, including sports massage, physiotherapy, and osteopathy, are here to:

  • Speed up recovery between sessions

  • Improve circulation and reduce soreness

  • Address niggles before they become injuries

If you’re running Wimbledon’s 10K or Half Marathon, recovery in the final weeks is just as important as training itself.

🧠 Mental Preparation & Breathwork

With race day approaching, whether it’s the London Marathon or a local event mental preparation becomes just as important as physical readiness.

We practice a lot of mindful breathing within our Mindful Flow classes and pranayama/breathwork is woven through the Sunrise Yoga on Fridays sessions, this can help you:

  • Manage pre-race nerves

  • Improve breathing efficiency and pacing

  • Stay focused and calm under pressure

These tools are especially valuable in the final days leading up to your event.

🌿 Supporting the Whole Athlete

Beyond physical performance, we offer a range of holistic therapies to support your overall wellbeing.

These can help with:

  • Better sleep and recovery

  • Stress management during intense training periods

  • Nervous system regulation

Looking after these areas can make a noticeable difference in how you feel on race day.
